The fall of Kadanzer Mountain

Text & Music: Sibylle Machat, 2002
Notes: Capo to second fret

Sibylle says: composed by Andrian shortly after seeing the smoking volcano that used to be his home. Big on minor chords, rather slow and sad - he liked the icy cold rock climate home … . The Chorus is rather angry in tone, and the "hook line" of the song the "people died in their sleep", more than any bit of the chorus.

Chorus:
(am) An awful glow fills the sky at night
(em) Fire, fire, and it burns so bright
(am) Fire straight from the (dm) Earth,
(em) Fire that to fire gives (am) birth.

(C) My home once was where (am) now
(G) That awful, stinking (am) fire shines
(C) A place of snow and (am) cold it was
(G) A mountain in the Barrier (am) Range.

Then one day the Earth shook
First a little, then some more,
And then another day again,
(G) And people (em) died in their (am)sleep.

Chours

The mountain I called home
Was Kadanzer Weyr
A volcano we all thought
Long dormant and cold.

The mountain I called home
Had glittering stones in the wall
And a caldera wide and tall
And people died in their sleep.

Chorus

The mountain I called home
Now spews fire day and night
In that glow you can see
Shining in the southern sky.

The volcano we all called home
Woke up from its long sleep
And growled, and warned us
And people died in their sleep.

Chorus

The place we now call home
Is Kadanzer Weyr-by-the-sea
Where the beaches are wide
And the redfruit trees grow tall.

The place we all called home
Is cooling stone in the snow
Solid rock where people did dwell
And silence where dragons
Ruled the sky.

(C) But now, (am) no-one dies in their (G) sleep.

Chorus (slow)

But now, no-one dies in their sleep.

(am) to FADE
