Green, green child

Text & Music: Sibylle Machat, 1999/2002
Notes: Based on Leo Lionni's picture book "Little blue and little yellow"

Sibylle says: one of my favourite books as a small kid. The book rhymes in German. Doesn't in English.

You started out as
little blue and little yellow
the heroes of a children’s story.

My dearest friends through
laughter and through sorrow
you somehow always eased my worry.

Oh, green green child
don’t you worry, don’t you cry
don’t you try to fade away.
Once blue and yellow,
but things will be all right,
my green green child.

Too much you two loved
each other, too close you got
and thus turned into little green.

Back home your parents
didn’t know you, couldn’t tell,
that things aren’t always what they seem.

Oh, green green child
don’t you worry, don’t you cry
don’t you try to fade away.
Once blue and yellow,
but things will be all right,
my green green child.

You’re still my dear friends
little blue and little yellow
I’m glad your story turned out right.

But should it not have
I would have loved you anyway
and held you through each lonely night.

Oh, green green child
don’t you worry, don’t you cry
don’t you try to fade away.
Once blue and yellow,
but things will be all right,
my green green child.

Oh, green green child
don’t you worry, don’t you cry
don’t you try to fade away.
You just let me
make things be all right,
my green, green child.
